More often than not, the job hunt is a vicious circle. You need experience to get a great job, but as a 22-year-old experiences can be few and far between. To get said experience you need a job.
The same is true for business cards. Though I’ve been denying it, the truth of the matter is: it’s all about who you know. So I’ve been networking like crazy – just joined NYC Women in Publishing and WNBA- NYC, am going to all sorts of informational interviews, and I’m starting to think about career fairs. I can’t be handing out my work portfolio to everyone I meet, but I don’t have a job, never mind a job title, and business cards serve that purpose. But they’re perfect for handing out without looking like a desperate job seeker. I worried I would look like a tool if I got them, but so far everyone has loved my “creativity” (there’s that word again) and plus, I feel cool ;-)
Mine are like a mini-resume. Here’s the back:
Got mine at vistaprint.com. Cheap and fast, highy recommend them for the quicky card.
