Unpaid internships are ridiculous. I was lucky enough to get paid by BookNet Canada (who are ridiculously awesome people) but I know people who are on their second, third unpaid internships. It's hard enough to get jobs in the industry, but to be expected to work for free? Interestingly enough, almost all of the small presses I know pay their interns, however all the big guys usually give out a $1000 honourarium at the end. How crap is that? Great series, Marian. Interestingly enough, almost all of the small presses I know pay their interns, however all the big guys usually give out a $1000 honourarium at the end. How crap is that?
